The Tenth Magazine is a global Art & Culture publication that documents the history, ideas, and aesthetics of the Black LGBTQ+ community. Since 2014, The Tenth has published seven volumes, hundreds of online pieces, countless readings, panels, and large-scale live events across the country and engaged some of the world’s most talented artists and intellectuals in creative encounters that reflect the historical and contemporary Black queer experience. As a Junior Art Director you will get to develop, lead and execute concepts and layout for social, print, video, and interactive media that brings our brand’s mission to life. You will help lead creative initiatives, be an instrumental part of a small team and produce visually stunning content. You should have a passion to find new ways to reach audiences harnessing the power of modern production approaches, platforms, and methodologies. You will be a great fit for this role if you can design compelling graphics, video content and photography in almost any medium on any digital program on a whim. Our team’s core value is to do everything with integrity and in service of our community. We’re looking for like-minded candidates who can take initiative, execute tasks efficiently, and communicate effectively with our small, remote team. Social Media Manager

The Tenth Magazine is an Art & Culture publication that documents the history, ideas and aesthetics of the African diaspora through an LGBTQ lens. Through our digital platforms, events, docu-shorts, and biannual publication, we engage some of the world’s most talented artists and intellectuals in creative encounters that reflect the historical and contemporary queer experience. We’re looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and resourceful Social Media Manager to join our fast-paced environment at The Tenth, who will help to develop and design content for all of our social media platforms including but not limited to Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. This can involve information related to technology, queer theory, climate change, LGBTQ social justice, fine arts and any other current news that is affecting the community. The Social Media Coordinator has a strong knowledge regarding issues affecting LGBTQI+ people of African descent and how to develop written copy that will accurately reflect the aesthetic of The Tenth’s diverse mediums. This person will work closely with our art team to assist with selecting images for copy and with our editors to manage posting schedules. This position requires one to manage multiple sometimes competing priorities and meet deadlines. We are a team that is growing together and realize know no one is infallible. Therefore, in addition to having excellent communication and written skills you must also be excited about learning, have a positive attitude when working with fellow “Tenthmates” and our network of contributors. The Tenth Magazine is a global Art & Culture publication that documents the history, ideas and aesthetics of the African diaspora through an LGBTQ lens. Over the years, we’ve collaborated with hundreds of the world’s most talented black queer artists and intellectuals to explore ideas from Mastery to Technology in print, and since 2014 have been at the forefront of new media organizations with solid engagement from a network of contributors and readers who are connected to our mission of moving underrepresented stories from the margins to the center. If you are an undergraduate entering your sophomore to senior year who is passionate about the black LGBTQ community -- its related global aesthetics and social movements --The Tenth Magazine offers a unique opportunity for growth, learning, and participation in meaningful work. Our interns are placed on various team projects and initiatives based on interest and skills they wish to build. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in print, digital media, film, event production and written communication. They are dependable, can work independently, pay attention to detail, adhere to deadlines and always exhibit a positive, respectful attitude towards “Tenthmates” and publication partners.
